EXCITING NEW ONLINE DEVELOPMENTS COMING THIS YEAR
CRPNA is continuing to move towards new expanded online processes for
the 2017 year. This year has already seen the development and
implementation of the new online registration examination application
process, and throughout 2017 we will see the implementation of a new
online registration application processes, Member accessible online
Practice Permits and tax receipts, an online RPN member page, and an
online electronic process for nominating and voting of Provincial
Council members to govern on the CRPNA Council.

REGISTERED PSYCHIATRIC NURSE REGULATORS OF CANADA (RPNRC)
The Registered Psychiatric Nurse Regulators of Canada (RPNRC) provides leadership for the profession of psychiatric nursing by: collaborating to achieve excellence and consistency in regulatory requirements and processes; engaging with stakeholders on regulatory matters; and informing the public about how the regulation of Registered Psychiatric Nurses in Canada protects the public. The RPNRC is a voice, nationally and internationally, for excellence in the profession.
Registered Psychiatric Nurse Regulators of Canada (RPNRC) is an incorporated body in Canada. It is a virtual organization whose members are the formal regulatory bodies for the profession of Registered Psychiatric Nurses in Canada: the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA); the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC); the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM): and, the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS). The Yukon Ministry of Community Services also regulates Registered Psychiatric Nurses. The
RPNRC Mobility and Assessment of Canadian and Internationally Educated
Registered Psychiatric Nurses Project was the first of its kind for the

VALUING MENTAL HEALTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The
Valuing Mental Health Advisory Committee is chaired by the Deputy
Minister of Health, and provides consultation based on expertise and
advice to the Valuing Mental Health Ministerial Executive Steering
Committee.
Members
represent interests from across the continuum of care (health
promotion, illness, prevention, primary care, treatment, recovery) in
substance use and misuse, mental health and mental illness and
concurrent disorders. Membership includes cross-ministry
representatives, service providers, health Professions, community
partners, persons with lived experience, and indigenous representatives.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IN DYING
The Tri-Nursing Group (CRPNA, CLPNA and CARNA) are working together to update the FAQ on MAID to reflect current language as well as developing guidelines for Regulated Nurses in Alberta that should be available early in 2017.
NEW DOCUMENTATION GUIDELINES
December 3rd, 2016 CRPNA Council approved the Charting and Documentation guidelines for RPNs
in practice in Alberta. These guidelines will be a resource for RPNs
to help meet the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta
(CRPNA) Practice Standards (2013) which require Registered Psychiatric
Nurses to document timely and accurate reports of relevant observations,
assessments, and decisions about client status, plans, interventions
and evaluations of client outcomes.

CRPNA COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS
CRPNA Council approved the new CRPNA Charting and Documentation Guidelines for RPNs in practice in Alberta
CRPNA Council responded to the October 2016 Annual General Meeting matter of not achieving quorum for Council elections by referencing and enabling CRPNA Bylaws 4.3, 4.8 and 7.1 to extend all Council member terms by one year thereby ensuring the effective ongoing operation of the Council, and maintaining the Council one-half turnover rate.
CRPNA Council strongly endorsed the move towards an electronic CRPNA Council Nominations and Elections process for the upcoming 2017 year.

Registered Psychiatric Nurses Foundation Inc. (RPNF) offers 3 scholarships:
John Alex Crawford Scholarship –
This Scholarship is for any RPN in Canada who wishes to pursue Master’s
or Doctoral studies that are directly related to any of the four
domains of Psychiatric Nursing Practice.
Annette Thorimbert Osted Scholarship – This Scholarship is for a Psychiatric Nurse student enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year of the Baccalaureate Psychiatric Nursing Program at a Canadian University.
The McCormick / Henry Scholarship
– This Scholarship is for any RPN in Canada who is taking further
studies in seniors mental health at the graduate level (MA or PhD) or
through an accredited certificate program.
